MINISTER RENEWS BPES PROGRAM AT CSU ONTARIO
The Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities in Ontario, the Hon. John Milloy, has given renewed consent for CSU
to offer a Bachelor of Primary Education Studies program in Ontario. The Minister’s action under the Post-Secondary Education
Choice and Excellence Act means CSU can offer the course for the next five years.
“The Minister’s renewal, with the support of the Post-Secondary Education Quality Assessment Board (PEQAB), reaffirms that Charles Sturt University in Burlington continues to deliver exceptional teacher education,” said Emeritus Professor Bob Meyenn, CSU Ontario Provost. “We take enormous pride in the success of our students, top-flight instructors and the world-class teaching materials, methodologies and technology that assist them.”
BURLINGTON ROCKS WITH CSU GRADUATION
Over 210 graduates and 860 guests took part in the 2009/2010 CSU convocation ceremonies at the Burlington Convention Centre,
in Burlington, Ontario, on June 18, 2010. It was a thrilling event for students, staff, family and friends.
Professor Ian Goulter, CSU Vice-Chancellor and President travelled from Australia to take part.
Convocation is the occasion where many students and graduates receive awards and qualifications. Later, hundreds of graduates kicked up
their heels at the traditional CSU graduation dinner and dance. Click here for more on this special day.
ONTARIO CAMPUS CELEBRATES FIFTH ANNIVERSARY
Over 150 friends of CSU including special guests Mr Justin Brown, Australia’s High Commissioner to Canada, Mr Stefan Trofimovs, Consul General of Australia in Toronto and Burlington’s Mayor, Cam Jackson gathered at the Ontario Campus April 22, 2010 to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the University in Canada.
“We are proud that one of Australia's largest public universities calls Burlington 'home'. As a testament to their high academic standards, CSU was one of the first international institutions to receive accreditation to operate as a university in Ontario,” said Mayor Jackson. “By finding and filling niches in existing post-secondary offerings and bridging college programs into university courses they are creating new and valued pathways for students.”

BE A CSI FROM CSU - EXCITING CAREERS IN FORENSIC BIOTECH AWAIT!
Charles Sturt University's School of Biomedical Sciences and Mohawk College are pleased to announce the commencement of the CSU Bachelor of Science (Forensic Biotechnology) at the CSU Ontario Campus.
Forensic biotechnology is an exciting and growing field of medical science. There is demand worldwide for graduates with broad skills in forensics, biotechnology and related fields. This program aims to broaden employment opportunities for graduates. Anything from working in crime scenes to genetic engineering to medical research are possible careers on completing this course of study.
This program is for graduates of Ontario College Diplomas in Biotechnology Technician (Health), Biotechnology Technician, or equivalent.
Mohawk College Biotechnology Technician (Health), or equivalent, graduates can enter directly into the Bachelor of Science (Forensic Biotechnology),
which commences in February 2011 Graduates of Mohawk College Biotechnology Technician program, or equivalent, will first need to complete a short
bridging program consisting of two courses in forensics and physiological sciences prior to starting the full program. Click here to learn more.
CSU GRADUATE WINS PROVINCIAL TEACHING AWARD
Ms Michelle Jerzyk, a 2007 graduate of Charles Sturt University's (CSU) Bachelor of Primary Education Studies (BPES), has won the 2010 Premier's Award for Teaching Excellence in the New Teacher of the Year category. The Burlington, Ontario resident teaches grade 4/5 at Sam Sherratt Public School in Milton. She was one of only three individuals recognised across Ontario in this category this year.
“Teaching in an extremely rewarding vocation,” says Ms Jerzyk, who modestly calls the award a surprising honour. “Each day, the kids in my class inspire me. Every person is different, and special in their own way. It is truly amazing to see them want to come to class every day to learn, and to grow together.” Read an interview with Michelle.
ONTARIO CAMPUS GETS A FACELIFT
Major renovations are underway at the CSU Ontario Campus at the Bay Area Learning Centre, in Burlington, Ontario.
The CAD $1.5m project will deliver additional office space, tutorial rooms, refurbished washrooms, specialized video conference rooms, and resource rooms for staff and students. The project will also deliver enhanced student spaces within the existing structure to support students as they study at the centre. When finished, the centre will have a capacity of approx 500-550 students and staff. Click here for more.
